Lille journalist names the two reasons Milan have edge over Newcastle in Botman talks

A journalist close to Lille has confirmed that AC Milan seem to be closing in on a double deal for Sven Botman and Renato Sanches.

French sports journalist Olivier Fosseux – who writes about Lille for the regional newspaper La Voix du Nord – spoke to PianetaMilan about the state of play of the two negotiations.

Regarding Botman, he claims that ‘nothing is official’ but ‘the method is very similar to the successful one used with Mike Maignan last season’ and the Dutch defender ‘was convinced very quickly’ about the idea of joining Milan.

Lille’s president Olivier Létang will set the price but given that the Dutchman still has three years on his contract, €30m plus bonuses could well be a fair price. Milan have two advantages over Newcastle: they will most likely play the Champions League next season and Mike Maignan ‘is an excellent ambassador for the Italian club, his city and his fans’.

Then, Renato Sanches and Jonathan David have been mentioned as potential targets. Sanches shone against Milan in the Europa League last year while David is attracting the interest from some top clubs. He suggests that to buy Botman, Renato and David would cost a combined €100m.
