GdS: From hell to heaven – Milan record vital derby win thanks to Giroud and Maignan

AC Milan reignited their Scudetto hopes with a memorable Derby della Madonnina win against city rivals Inter at San Siro on Sunday evening.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) titles their recap on the game as ‘From hell to heaven’ and a pleasant paradox for the Rossoneri, who were able to ride two goals from Olivier Giroud within five minutes to emerge victorious. The Frenchman was the great protagonist of the evening, but he was very much supported by Mike Maignan.

Milan didn’t come back by chance, they stayed in the game thanks to Maignan’s epic saves and then battled back with suffering, sacrifice and humility in the second half. The Rossoneri know how to compensate for their limits with their hearts, believing in them until the end.

Milan were practically out of the Scudetto race a quarter of an hour from the end of the derby, and are now back to a point behind Inter. The hope for Pioli is that he and the squad can use this momentum.
