MilanNews talk about the seemingly never-ending discussion and speculation surrounding the stadium project. After the official arrival of RedBird as the new owner of Milan, the rumours about the possibility of moving the new facility to Sesto San Giovanni are becoming more and more insistent.
Staying within the city limits (and therefore answering to Mayor Beppe Sala) seems to be becoming more and more difficult as an option due to the delays that Milan and Inter have been met with so far.
The Rossoneri president Paolo Scaroni made his stance on the issue clear yesterday: “For us, time is a value. We have such an urgency to have a structure suited to our ambitions, so that the first project that becomes feasible will be the one that attracts us the most.”
In essence, he is saying that the area who can show themselves as the potential to be the site of the stadium project in the shortest time will win.
The Mayor of Sesto has quite clear ideas: “The hypothesis of the new Milan stadium in Sesto San Giovanni is strong and concrete. The idea is to create a modern stadium with 60-70 thousand seats, sustainable and, above all, aimed at families with services active 7 days a week.”
Of course, Mayor Sala could not just sit back and watch the various statements in the media that seem to strongly hint that one of the teams (or both) could leave his realm of influence and head north east.
“I asked the teams to have confirmation of their intentions because we have taken our steps. The public interest must respect the laws and this is what I want to do by reiterating my will that Milan and Inter remain in Milano.”
Scaroni confirmed his willingness to open up to public debate and subsequent appeals in addition to the desire to build a new stadium with Inter and on the originally proposed site next to San Siro, but everyone’s patience has a limit.
