MN: Why Milan’s interest in signing Aston Villa midfielder has cooled

AC Milan’s enthusiasm in signing Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa has cooled due to the risk of a potential auction, a report claims.

According to MilanNews, Chukwuemeka is the player that the Milan management have identified as their back-up target in the event that Renato Sanches did not join from Lille and managed to get a move to Paris Saint-Germain instead.

Milan already have Chukwuemeka lined up as a Plan B even if he is a different profile given that he is only 18 and does not have much senior football under his belt. The issue is that his talent and his performances for England’s U19 side at international level have bewitched many top European clubs.

That has cooled the Rossoneri’s interest for the time being as Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara do not want to participate in any type of auction. His deal expires in June 2023 but Villa are still wanting €15m+ to sell him this summer, so it appears Milan will try to play the waiting game knowing he could arrive for a FIFA development fee of around €470k next summer.
