GdS: Milan interested in €40m Ligue 1 striker who rejected Newcastle move

AC Milan are on the lookout for potential centre-forward options for the future and Hugo Ekitike of Reims has emerged as a target, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com) reports that Milan are constantly on the lookout for emerging talent that they can sign before they end up on the radar of the truly elite clubs and that can then be developed into top players. The arrival of Marko Lazetic from Red Star in January is an example of this.

Another striker might well be needed though because Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will turn 36 and 41 this year respectively, which is why the paper claims that Milan are following Hugo Ekitike closely.

The Franco-Cameroonian striker is 19 years of age and has a contract with Ligue 1 side Reims until June 2024, where he has already scored 10 goals this season and has broken into the France U20 national team, which does suggest he will command a sizeable asking price.

Gazzetta (via TMW) go on to state that Ekitike has already rejected a move to Newcastle because he is not convinced by the destination – wanting a club of a higher ranking – while he is already worth in the €40m region.
