Sacchi believes Milan deserve to be top but admits ‘they are not the strongest team’

Ahead of another immensely important fixture in the Serie A title race, former Milan manager Arrigo Sacchi believes there is still room for the Rossoneri to improve.

Milan host Bologna on Monday evening and must win to stay top and keep control of the Scudetto race, with Inter and Napoli both securing big victories over the weekend.

Sacchi expressed a few minor concerns, however, when speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport (quoted by MilanNews): “Milan must win to break away from Napoli and Inter again, but let’s not forget that Milan, we have said it a thousand times, is not the strongest.

“They deservedly lead, but it is a young team. It lacks the necessary experience and the calendar does not help them,” He claimed, worrying about the lack of stars in the side.

He added, stating that the Rossoneri must find continuity in their performances, and placing importance on the role of Stefano Pioli: “Pioli knows that he must focus above all on the collective because only by doing so will individual players never feel alone and will perform better.”

The Rossoneri’s title hopes remain in their hands atop of the table, but they must still face the likes of Fiorentina, Atalanta and Lazio before the season is out.

A semi-final second leg with Inter also awaits, with one eye on the Coppa Italia trophy.
