ML: Milan could be in the third pot for Europa League group draw – the risk they face

While it is important for AC Milan not to get too ahead of themselves, it is interesting look ahead to potential Europa League group stages opponents.

After last night’s win over Bodo/Glimt at San Siro, the Rossoneri know that they are one win away from reaching the groups and bringing in an extra €15m in revenue, but first they must get past Rio Ave in Portugal next Thursday.

As MilanLive notes, there is a real chance that Milan could enter into the group stage draw in the third pot, due to the fact the club’s UEFA ranking has dropped so drastically over the past seven years.

Milan would be joined in the third pot by teams like Rapid Vienna, Leicester, Malmoe, Qarabag, Standard Liège and Real Sociedad, and the risk is that they could draw a difficult team from both pot one and two.

There are of course two English clubs in Arsenal and Tottenham who should be in the groups, plus Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg and other teams from the continent like Benfica, PSV and Villarreal.
