MN: Milan consider Ilicic a useful attacking weapon – the main reasons they are keen

AC Milan are strongly considering Josip Ilicic as a reinforcement who could bring big benefits to the attacking department, according to a report.

As per MilanNews, the departure of Hakan Calhanoglu has Milan looking for a player who can compliment Brahim Diaz, who has joined on a two-year loan with an option to buy set at €25m and a buy-back in favour of Los Blancos.

Ilicic is seen as a player who could help the cause given that Gian Piero Gasperini himself admitted he could leave, and he is evaluated as an alternative to Alexis Saelemaekers on the right flank. During his career, Ilicic also played as an attacking midfielder and Stefano Pioli himself wants quality depth.

Ilicic has Champions League experience which is an important factor to bear in mind, but age is also an issue given that Ilicic will turn 34 next January. This seems to be precisely the unknown factor linked to his performances, which in the last year have not been as exciting and intense as in the past.

However, the arrival of Olivier Giroud has shown that Milan are willing to bet on the right experienced elements, and Milan hope to sign him for a reasonable amount, avoiding large expenses. His arrival would not exclude the arrival of another attacking player, such as Sabitzer, Ziyech, Isco and Vlasic, but Ilicic would be a useful attacking weapon.
