MN: The truth about Bennacer’s €50m clause – why Milan agreed to it

Ismael Bennacer has agreed to renew his contract with AC Milan and the announcement could arrive very soon. In the Algerian’s new contract, the €50m release clause will remain as per the latest reports.

It’s obviously a huge boost for the Rossoneri to lock down Bennacer until 2027. The agreement includes a salary of around €4m per year and the €50m release clause will remain, which has sparked some debate on social media.

As highlighted by Pietro Mazzara, it isn’t as bad as it sounds given four key conditions: 1) it’s only valid for foreign clubs 2) it won’t be valid in the summer of 2023 3) it must be paid in one instalment and 4) it will only be valid in the first 15 days of July.

With that said, although €50m is still a decent deal for a player like Bennacer, it takes a bit more convincing for whoever is interested in signing him. At the very least, Milan won’ be walking away with zero in the event of a sale.
