Luka Modric’s story at AC Milan may well be far from over, as the midfielder’s love for the club could see him remain.

Modric once again helped seal Croatia’s qualification for the knockout stages of a major tournament. Over the weekend he provided a lovely assist for Nikola Vlasic in their 2-1 win over Ghana, booking a round of 32 berth.
He will officially be a free agent soon. From what has been reported by various sources, Milan are keen to keep him at Milanello for another season, and he seems increasingly intent on evaluating this possibility in recent days.
Romano: Modric’s Milan love could win
Fabrizio Romano, in his latest video on his YouTube channel (via MilanVibes), attempted to provide further updates on the matter. He spoke of the Ballon d’Or winner’s need to focus on the World Cup, but also his openness to discussions with Milan.
“Luka Modric continues to enchant. For me, he’s more than just a great player, more than a legend, more than a Ballon d’Or winner, and we’ll realise this more and more in the coming years. He continues to make history with the national team at 40,” he said.
“But what’s happening with AC Milan? Right now, he’s still thinking about the World Cup. He was 100% convinced he could stay in the Champions League, but then he found himself without the Champions League, without Allegri, with whom he had a wonderful relationship, and without Igli Tare, the director who brought him to the Rossoneri.
“However, his love for AC Milan remains intact. He was a fan as a boy, and as a player, he always dreamed of playing for the club. He hasn’t completely abandoned the idea of staying at AC Milan and continuing to play, so he’s always kept a small door open and will decide after the World Cup.
“It will obviously depend on the type of technical project and the offer he’ll be given for next year, but we can’t rule out Luka Modric’s presence in AC Milan in 2026-27.”
