The future of Milan and Modric is a difficult one to assess. Ultimately, very little has filtered out about his future. All that is known is that he will make his own decision, perhaps as early as May, but the World Cup will play a part.
He has achieved lots in his career, and the dream is to add more with the club of his childhood. However, it will not be possible this season, barring some sort of miracle.
Nevertheless, there is nothing to say that the goal could be achieved next season, which would be greatly aided by his renewal.
The renewal situation
As Gazzetta dello Sport, shown below, wrote this morning, the management were left smiling at the words from Modric at the unveiling of his Ballon d’Or in the museum. He is considered a crucial part of the team by them, his fellow teammates and Massimiliano Allegri.
Everything is clear from a Milanese perspective, the love is a two-way street, and if he wants to extend, the contract will be there waiting for him to sign – as Igli Tare restated at the weekend.
There is no rush and no pressure, but there appears to already be an internal agreement that the Casa Milan exhibition will remain for another season if he does. In other words, the fact that has already been discussed shows that he is not completely closed off to the idea.
A decision is not expected for a while, and the Diavolo will not push him for an answer. The ball is firmly in Modric’s court, and Milan would be honoured to see him extend.
