Milan are no strangers to the Golden Ball. Indeed, they have had several players to win the award whilst wearing the colours, whilst there have also been several, like Modric, to win the award before arriving at Milanello.

The Ballon d’Or is one of the biggest achievements in sport, and it is one of the most recognisable signs of a fantastic player. If it was not already cemented, Modric’s place in footballing history is confirmed by his possession of the award.

Now, after admiring the midfielder for nearly a full season, they can marvel at the award too, with an exhibition being opened to honour the midfielder’s legacy. At the opening, the Croatian spoke about the idea and his move to the Diavolo, as MilanNews relays.

“When the club spoke to me for the first time about this idea, for me, there was no doubt in doing it: from the first day I arrived here, I felt very welcome and loved by all the fans. This is a small gesture to reciprocate all the affection that has been addressed to me since the day I arrived at Milan.

“It’s wonderful to see this photo [the one of him in a Milan shirt as a child]. It brings me back many memories because when I was a child, I was a big fan of Milan: now, thirty years later, playing for this great club is really wonderful, a dream come true.

“I didn’t expect this to happen, but in the end, things come when you least expect them. I realised this dream and I’ve been enjoying it since day one: I’m really grateful for everything the Club and the fans are giving me from the beginning”
