Luka Modric will return from the World Cup and make a decision on his future at AC Milan, leaving many speculating about what’s next.

At 40 years old, Modric is not getting any younger. It is clear that his best days are behind him and whilst he is still excellent, he needs to ensure that he still feels right to play at the level he wants to. So, this is why the World Cup is a great test.
If he can continue to compete against the best, he may feel able to continue for another season. Ultimately, though, it is not just about doing it for any club.
Indeed, the Croatian is only going to play again for the club he loves, Milan, if it is to be anyone after the tournament.
Modric’s future
Speaking on his YouTube channel, via MilanVibes, Fabrizio Romano explained the Modric situation and the next steps he’ll take after the World Cup has finished, which is an important caveat to the situation.
“We’ll have to wait until the end of the World Cup for Luka Modric, since he’s told everyone, from his agents to all the parties involved, that he wants to focus solely on Croatia.
“However, once the competition is over, we’ll see how things go, but Modric will want to talk to Milna, he’ll want to talk to Ruben Amorim and the management, to understand the project as well. Modric’s love for Milan is well known and it’s not just the beginning.
“He made a heartfelt decision last season, and Modric is still considering staying at Milan despite this season’s huge disappointment. I wouldn’t rule out Luka Modric staying; speaking with Amorim at the end of the World Cup will help us understand his decision.”
