There was heavy interest in AC Milan’s central defenders in the summer, and a report has suggested that Geoffrey Moncada is eyeing up a star to bring in.
Milan struggled massively with a defensive crisis in the 2022/23 season. As a result, investing in the defence was a priority in the summer. However, there were stages in the summer when it seemed that they could lose a few defenders, with several clubs sniffing.
Of course, we know Pierre Kalulu departed to Juventus, but he may not have been the only one. Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw were both interests for Premier League side Newcastle United, but neither departed.
As Milan Live (via Pianeta Milan) suggest, though, there is a possibility that one of the duo could depart next summer, and Tomori is reportedly the more likely departure as things stand, but that could change as the mercato is volatile.
In the case that the Rossoneri earn more than €30 million for either departure, Moncada already has his target in mind – Giorgio Scalvini. The young defender is currently sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury, and if he were to return positively in the next few months, the Diavolo would re-open talks about the 2025 summer mercato.
