“A more operational role” – Moretto states Gardiner was involved in Milan’s coach hiring

It seemed that Ben Gardiner had only been promoted to a new role earlier this week. However, it would appear that is not the case.

Promotions are not always announced when they happen. For example, Massimo Calvelli’s step into the CEO role – albeit temporarily – was not announced by the club and it seems that another promotion may have happened.

Indeed, Gardiner, who is the new Head Scout, seems to have been involved in more operational roles with the lack of structure at the top of the club and this has involved meeting with several candidates.

Gardiner’s role in Milan’s pursuit

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto looked at how Gardiner was involved in the process, as Francesco Nasato relayed on X.

“Gardiner is the one who, in the latest period, has also travelled to meet and discuss with the coaches themselves; he spoke with Iraola, he spoke with Amorim, in short, he has a somewhat more operational role compared to the past”

Of course, his participation in meetings could’ve just been to assess his relationship with anyone potentially coming in. Alternatively, with him being an analyst, it could’ve been an exploration of their ideas and how they may translate to Serie A.

Either way, it is interesting to hear that he was present.
