Sport: ‘Negotiation with Jorginho’ – Barcelona and Milan battling to sign Chelsea midfielder

AC Milan and Barcelona are going head-to-head in the race to sign Jorginho on a free transfer from Chelsea, according to a report.

SPORT in Spain talk about ‘Operation Jorginho’ and state that Barcelona and Milan are currently the two best-positioned clubs in the race to sign Jorginho. The 30-year-old midfielder’s contract ends on June 30 and at the moment it is likely he will leave Stamford Bridge as a free agent.

The paper speaks of a ‘common denominator’ between the Blaugrana and the Rossoneri in that both clubs are keen on the former Napoli man because he would arrive on a free, something that would alleviate the budget for other purchases.

Milan are currently the team better placed to make the higher offer for two reasons: the Italian tax system and the Growth Decree scheme means less gross amount, while Barca are in need of raising money before spending more.

Barcelona would have to rely on the will of the player, who would be attracted by the idea of moving to the Camp Nou and getting to know LaLiga, because he has already played in Serie A.
