AC Milan can breathe a sigh of relief as tests have ruled out any major injuries for Mario Gila, who was subbed off against Celtic yesterday.

Ruben Amorim brought on Gila for the second half at Celtic Park, and while he started well, he didn’t get that much playing time. About 20 minutes into the half, the Spaniard stopped play while he was on the ball, signalling to the bench that a substitution was needed.

Sure enough, he was replaced by the youngster Valeri Vladimirov. Obviously, since he’s one of Milan’s new signings, all of us immediately feared the worst. It certainly would have been very typical, but some good news has now arrived from Milanello.

Gila avoids serious injury

As confirmed by the club, via Antonio Vitiello, the tests carried out this morning have ruled out any serious injuries for Gila. However, the tests did show ‘a strain in his right femoral rectus’, which means the centre-back will still need some rest.

That said, while it would have been nice to see him in the next pre-season friendlies, it’s probably the best outcome Milan could have dared to wish for. A proper injury would have put the start of the season at risk, but now we should be looking at a few weeks at most.

More details on the recovery time should emerge during the day, so we will keep you posted on that front.
