On the official website, Milan have confirmed that Loftus-Cheek underwent laparoscopic appendectomy surgery today due to acute abscessed appendicitis. The operation, which was performed by Professor Francesco Corcione and his team, went perfectly to plan.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the former Chelsea man complained of severe abdominal pain during the night and was examined this morning by the medical staff. The tests revealed an attack of appendicitis which needed an operation, and he is expected to miss around one month.

Loftus-Cheek’s absence will force Sergio Conceiçao to review the starting lineup. The most likely hypothesis is the inclusion of Youssouf Fofana in midfield, but the coach could also opt for a more attacking formation, deploying Joao Felix between the lines and bring Rafael Leao in.

RLC returned after a long absence in the game against Como and had worked well at Milanello during the break. His return was welcomed with great enthusiasm by Conceicao, who labelled him a ‘monster’.
