Trio shine in a sea of average: Player ratings for Milan-Monza from Italian papers

AC Milan signed off the 2024-25 season in winning fashion by beating Monza 2-0, amid a climate of protest surrounding the club.

The build-up to the game was dominated by the action that fans took. Firstly it was confirmed they would exit the stadium after 15 minutes and leave the team ‘alone with their shame’, while thousands gathered outside Casa Milan to chant against the leadership.

On the field, those who remained to watch had to wait over an hour for the first goal in an eventual 2-0 victory. Matteo Gabbia got the first goal as he nodded in a corner, then Joao Felix whipped in a free-kick to make sure of the victory.

Milan vs. Monza: Player ratings

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has their ratings from the game, starting with the team’s overall performance which was a 6 out of 10, and Sergio Conceicao’s management (from the stands, due to a ban) which got the same score.

Joao Felix was the most impressive performer in what is ironically expected to be his final game for the club. He got a 7, while Mike Maignan, Mateo Gabbia and substitutes Francesco Camarda and Samuel Chukwueze got a 6.5.

Yunus Musah was handed a 5 as was Luka Jovic. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Davide Bartesaghi were given half a point more, while everyone else got a passing grade of 6.

Moving on to Corriere dello Sport, they also praised Maignan, Gabbia and Joao Felix (6.5) for their roles in the win. Musah and Jovic got a 5, with all other players getting a 6.
