Report: Milan defender Florenzi involved in betting scandal investigation

The betting scandal that resulted in bans for Nicolo Fagioli and Sandro Tonali is not over. AC Milan defender Alessandro Florenzi has now been implicated, a report claims, with the interrogation set to take place in the coming days.

The former Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali was handed a ten-month ban last month for his involvement in the betting scandal. The current Newcastle man admitted to betting on football and the length of the ban was significantly decreased thanks to his cooperation.

According to Agenzia Italia, Florenzi is involved in the betting scandal and will be interrogated by the Prosecutor in the coming days. It’s possible, however, that the veteran hasn’t placed any bets on football, spending money on casino games instead.

Nicolo Zaniolo was also questioned on the same accusation a while back but explained that he only played poker as well as blackjack. His case will likely be dropped, therefore, and it remains to be seen if Florenzi will have the same defence.

In the meantime, we have to wait for more reports on the matter and not jump to any conclusion. Once the interrogation has taken place, more information should be available and then the effects on Milan can be discussed properly.
