Sacchi believes Milan winning the league would be a ‘miracle’: “They signed unknown players”

Former AC Milan manager Arrigo Sacchi has tried to explain some of the problems that the Rossoneri have encountered in their quest to win a first Scudetto since 2010-11.

A second 0-0 in a row last night leaves a sour taste in the mouth and the Rossoneri no longer have their title dreams in their hands because of Inter’s win against Hellas Verona, though they did open the gap to two points ahead of Napoli again.

There are some worrying stats regarding the attack too, as Milan have drawn two consecutive 0-0 matches in Serie A since December 2018 (also against Torino and Bologna) and failed to score for two matches in a row in the league for the first time since February 2021.

Sacchi spoke in his weekly column for La Gazzetta dello Sport about the action over the weekend and specifically about his former club, who now do not have their destiny in their hands.

“The Rossoneri are doing a miracle by staying in the running for the Scudetto. They signed unknown players, whom the others didn’t want. Even against Torino, Milan tried to win. They ran a lot, but perhaps badly, in a disorganised way,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

“Leao is a boy of great qualities, but still immature and not yet combative. If Milan win the Scudetto it would be a miracle, but let the Lord do the miracles.”

Sacchi also spoke rather dismissively about Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli, another competitor for the title race who slipped up over the weekend as they lost 3-2 at home against Fiorentina.

“Napoli’s problem is that they win a game and then relax. And this thing has happened to many, even to the national team. Italy won the European Championships, then was unable to do well after losing the chance to access the World Cup which will take place in Qatar,” he said.
