CM: Samardzic expected to fetch over €20m – background on Milan’s interest

AC Milan can only watch on as Lazar Samardzic seems to be closing in on a move to Napoli, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com state that the first exploratory contacts between the representatives of the midfielder and the Partenopei took place to set up a negotiation with a view of next summer. Cristiano Giuntoli wants to stay ahead of the competition from Serie A and foreign clubs by trying to secure a deal for the Udinese talent.

Samardzic was originally a playmaker but he is exceeding at Udinese in a deeper role, showing his technical quality and penchant for shooting from distance. Udinese know that they can make at least €20m from his sale, and Milan may be kicking themselves.

They were following the German U21 international closely – just like they are many players in that side – and could have signed him for the €500k release clause in his contract at old club Hertha Berlin.

Samardzic met Maldini and Massara in Milano with his whole family, but then nothing came of it. Meanwhile, Udinese are now looking forward to yet another big capital gain.
