GdS: Serie A rules will influence Milan’s summer market – breakdown of the current squad

AC Milan’s choices in the transfer market will be influenced by the regulations that must be adhered to with regards to the composition of the squad list.

La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms that the rules for Serie A entail that a team can name a 25-man squad, but at least four must have come through the academy at that club (must have been there for a period of 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21) and four must have come through the academy at another Italia club (the same criterion, regardless of the Nationality).

This will influence the choices of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara given that Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessie’s contracts are set to expire and they fit into the latter category. It could mean that Alessandro Florenzi is signed permanently for that reason as much as for his performances.

Here is the current state of the squad:

Trained in the academy: Calabria, Gabbia, Pobega (on loan at Torino), Plizzari (on loan to Lecce).

Trained in Italy: Florenzi (in case of signing from Roma), Caldara (on loan to Venezia), Tonali, Mirante (expiring), Romagnoli (expiring), Kessie (expiring).

Under 21 (no registration required): Lazetic, Maldini, Colombo (on loan to SPAL).

The others: Maignan, Tatarusanu; Hernandez, Ballo-Touré, Kjaer, Tomori, Kalulu; Bakayoko (two-year loan), Bennacer, Krunic, Diaz (two-year loan), Adli (on loan at Bordeaux), Saelemaekers, Castillejo, Messias (if bought fom Crotone); Rebic, Leao, Giroud, Ibrahimovic (expiring).
