SM: Pioli presented with new tactical issue after Bennacer’s injury – the possible solutions

AC Milan received some bad news yesterday as Ismael Bennacer requires surgery on his knee and therefore his season is over.

Milan will be able to count on the returning Rafael Leao for the second leg against Inter on Tuesday, but they will be without one of their other most important players as Bennacer has sustained a knee issue that needs arthroscopic surgery.

As our colleague at SempreMilan.it report, the Algerian will have the operation on either Friday or Saturday after a post-traumatic cartilage lesion of the lateral femoral condyle of the right knee, with a two or three month absence epxected.

How he will be replaced

To replace him, Stefano Pioli could return to fielding Brahim Diaz as a playmaker with Rade Krunic in the double pivot alongside Sandro Tonali, or he could even use Tommaso Pobega in place of Bennacer to try and keep the balance.

However, the match against Spezia opens up a new suggestion: could it be an opportunity for De Ketelaere to really show his capabilities?

The Belgian playmaker should start against the Ligurians and any convincing proof could open up new scenarios for his immediate future within the rotations of Pioli.
