Sommer admits Italy is ‘difficult’ when discussing Scudetto: “Watch out for Milan”

AC Milan are still in the Scudetto race, even after a poor start to the season, and Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer has admitted he feels the Rossoneri still have a good chance.

This Serie A season seems to be heading down a different path than those in previous years. After seven matches, there is already more of a ‘title fight’ than there has been in previous years, and whilst this can quickly change, it does not seem like it will.

Including Milan, there are probably four solid title contenders – that is expecting Lazio and Udinese to start falling off between now and the end of the season – and there is a lot of time to fight for points.

Juventus, Inter and the Diavolo are currently chasing leaders Napoli, and when the Rossoneri face them in a few games time the title picture could be completely different. It already feels like that game could be decisive in Milan’s season, and failing to pick up form between now and then could see Paulo Fonseca’s job slip.

Today, Sommer sat down with Gazzetta dello Sport to discuss the Scudetto race, and he refused to rule out the Nerazzurri’s biggest rivals – especially after losing to the Rossoneri last month – and his words have been relayed by Milan Press.

“I imagine a very difficult, contested season. But even last year before we ran away there was a time when we were second. We’ve already seen how strong Juve and Napoli are, but we also lost the derby, so watch out for Milan too: we’ll see who will hold out in the end! But when you say that every match is difficult in Italy, it’s not rhetoric. It’s the truth.”
