AC Milan seem to have solved their defensive woes with the recent switch to a three-man defence, according to a report.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) write how Milan secured a third consecutive one-goal win in the most difficult moment of Stefano Pioli’s tenure so far, where the defence was leaking from all sides and there did not seem to be an easy fix.
It was a hard fought win against Monza last night, one made even more painful because the result remained in the balance until the end, but it is the price to pay for finding some defensive balance and of course solidity is required to defend a one-goal lead three games in a row.
Milan missed several chances to go 2-0 up against a Monza side that were more compact and kept their lines close together. Palladino’s side put Milan in difficulty but the difference was the quality of a Junior Messias strike in the first half.
Malick Thiaw is fitting well into this new formation and in the centre of defence, between Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori, the latter of whom was back in the starting line-up after more than 20 days.
With the German defender, Milan have re-emerged from the abyss into which it had fallen and the next step will be to make victories like yesterday’s less tiring.
