Over the next few months, the AC Milan project will be identifiable. It starts after the international break ends and from there, it will be a constant test.

The final months of the season are vital for Milan. Simply put, they will decide their own future in the last games of the season, whilst also being able to identify their goals for the summer. In other words, the pressure is on.

On a footballing level, Massimiliano Allegri can potentially start one final push for the Scudetto against Napoli when his team returns from international duty. Failing that, he will aim to solidify their place in next season’s Champions League.

Internally, the management must work out the spending ability for the summer, whilst also locking in targets. No one gets a break now…

Vitiello’s assessments

Antonio Vitiello wrote a lengthy column discussing the situations facing the Rossoneri, and his words for MilanNews can be found below.

“Eight games to close the circle, and the moment of truth is getting closer and closer. The feelings about reaching the Champions League placement are positive, but the necessary points are needed to secure the qualification.

“And a pragmatist like Allegri only thinks about that, that is to get to the arithmetic certainty as soon as possible. He doesn’t want to waste what good he has done during the year, but he knows that the final part of the tournament is the one where you need more cold blood to go to checkers.

“The championship will restart with the big match against Napoli, a team that on paper was supposed to be the real antagonist of Inter. Indeed, some think that the Neapolitan team should have won the championship because it has the best squad.

“This means that so far it has been a disappointing journey, and therefore the pressure to win Maradona’s match is all on the shoulders of Conte’s Azzurri.

“Too bad that Milan is going to play this game with an attack that has been experiencing a goal crisis for weeks. It would have been all different to play this final rush with Leao and Pulisic at best. But here we come to the second point of the editorial.

“A fundamental decision has to be made at the office. And it’s the one with next season’s tip. Now we have reached the fateful crossroads, and you can’t go wrong anymore. For too many years, players have arrived who have not solved anything.

“It will be necessary to understand in depth which man to pick up is from a technical point of view, and then do everything to please the coach. After a first year of settling, the second season needs to raise the level.

“The Devil needs a goaleador, a man with 20 goals. A profile that has been missing since the time of the first Ibrahimovic, and that Giroud had only partially managed to fill. And it’s no coincidence that Milan won the title again when they decided to put Olivier in the heart of the penalty area.

“We will live decisive weeks. Between April and May, the market strategies are put down and this time the pieces will have to be of a certain calibre, otherwise we will never be able to fight seriously to win.”
