Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Tijjani Reijnders for a fee worth €55m plus bonuses to reach €70m, as per multiple reports. Milan must rebuild the midfield, and it seems that the first piece will be Modric, who will soon be out of contract with Real Madrid.

The Croatian has won 28 major trophies with Los Blancos in a spell that lasted over a decade. He played over 50 games in 2024-25 which shows he is still incredibly fit, even at 39 years of age.

Modric to Milan: A done deal

However, despite all the talk of a decision made, Modric’s comments at a press conference on the eve of the match against the Czech Republic made everyone worry.

“I haven’t decided where to continue my career . I haven’t made any decisions, even though there have been phone calls and contacts,” he said.

“I’ve put everything aside because I want to focus on the national team. Concentration compromised by rumours? It’s something we can’t escape. For me personally, and I think for others too, it doesn’t compromise concentration.

“I don’t think it affects it, it’s that time of year when many players don’t know where they’ll continue their careers. I don’t think it should compromise anyone’s concentration.”

Calciomercato.com regard them as ‘diplomatic words, dictated by normal caution before the medical and signing’. Modric’s move to Milan is a done deal and news will arrive from Tuesday onwards, once the midfielder’s commitments with Croatia have ended.
