MN: Window remains open for Romagnoli to renew as Lazio struggle to formulate package

AC Milan believe that it is not yet a foregone conclusion that Alessio Romagnoli will leave on a free transfer, a report claims.

When Simon Kjaer suffered a season-ending injury towards the back end of last year, Romagnoli probably assumed that he would have a starting spot for the rest of the campaign but the emergence of Pierre Kalulu has once again relegated the captain to a bench role.

MilanNews report that the idea of joining Lazio has become more and more concrete for Romagnoli in recent weeks, and the 27-year-old has always declared himself a fan of the Roman club. He would go there and almost be guaranteed a starting spot given Luiz Felipe and Acerbi are set to leave, but Lazio are struggling to guarantee a package of salary and commissions to his agent Mino Raiola.

Therefore, a small window remains open for him to renew with Milan, a scenario described as ‘difficult and complicated but still possible’. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have offered a deal worth €3m net per season but can not guarantee him a starting spot, especially if Sven Botman joins from Lille.
