This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) confirms that Milan will get a ‘makeover’ this summer, with a number of different signings being targeted.
It follows on from the press conference given by Igli Tare, in which he spoke of the desire to add a number of new players to strengthen the squad.
Six new signings
Two full-backs, a central defender, two midfielders and a centre-forward: it won’t be a ‘revolution’ but something that resembles it. After all, if Milan – who finished eighth last season – want to ‘turn the page immediately’ and ‘try to win the Scudetto’ then work is needed.
The CEO Giorgio Furlani said that many ‘functional and prospective signings will be needed, and at the same time at least a couple of additions in the middle of depth and experience’.
To be more specific, a centre-back will arrive if one leaves, as is likely to be the case with Tomori and Thiaw courted by the foreign market. There will be two new full-backs, one for each wing, young and with specific characteristics to fit in as best as possible.
In the midfield, once Modric is done, there will be other interventions: leadership and talent will have to combine in a mix of accomplished players and youngsters to be enhanced. The aim is to achieve ‘dominance of the game through players with great ball possession who will raise the quality even further’.
A winger is also possible if there is a sale (and there should be: either Chukwueze or Okafor) and a new striker. On the latter, Tare perfectly outlined exactly what kind of profile the Rossoneri are aiming for.
“We are looking for a striker to put in competition with Gimenez, who I consider an excellent player who has had a normal impact on our football. Santi tends to spread out: we, also speaking about it with Ibra, need a striker who makes the difference in the area, a Giroud,” he said.
