‘Ante can be the second striker’ – Pioli discusses Rebic’s role at Milan

Head coach Stefano Pioli has shed some light on where he thinks Ante Rebic can play his best football with Milan, excluding two positions in the process.

Rebic has endured a difficult campaign ravaged by injury and inconsistency, rendering him somewhat ineffective and stopping him from nailing a place as a regular starter.

But Pioli, speaking in his presser ahead of Milan’s clash with Bologna on Monday, opened up on how Rebic fits into the side: “Ante can be the second striker”.

He added, dismissing certain roles for the 28-year-old: “I don’t think he’s an attacking midfielder.

“On the right isn’t an area he likes but he can play there.”

Pioli also dismissed discussions about his role as a starter or a bench player, emphasising that the impact he makes is the most important aspect.

It suggests that Rebic’s best chances of making an impact will come from the left flank, as backup for Rafael Leao, or as the striker when deputising for Olivier Giroud or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, considering Milan rarely opt for two striker systems.
