CM: Bakayoko firmly Pioli’s last choice for the midfield – his situation a €5m+ problem for Milan

Tiemoue Bakayoko’s recent form is not just a concern for AC Milan on the field, but there are some decisions to be made off the field too.

Calciomercato.com reports how the French midfielder – since returning to the Rossoneri over the summer on loan with an option to buy – has played a total of 307 minutes across the league and the Champions League, starting three times in Serie A and being subbed off at half-time in each.

Bakayoko was expected to bring experience and physicality to a club he loves and knows well, but he has ended up being firmly the last choice. Milan wanted him strongly and after a summer of negotiations with Chelsea they got a two-year loan agreement, with an option to buy set at €15m.

The operation has not paid off, at least for the moment, and it must be noted that the former Monaco and Napoli man does not benefit from the Growth Decree tax relief scheme so he costs over €5m per year given the €750k loan fee and €4.6m gross salary. It is too much for a player who offers too little.
