Former CFO Zvonimir Boban has not held back on his thoughts regarding AC Milan’s current owners Elliott Management, who he believes ‘understand little’ about the club.
Boban has given an explosive interview to Sportweek during which he was asked about his exit from the club and his thoughts on how things are being run, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.
“Luckily Paolo [Maldini] has remained at the club. He has grown a lot, now he is a high-level director. It is necessary, among many administrators, marketing men, experts in numbers and people who do not love football and understand little of Milan,” he said.
On the Scudetto fight, he added: “I say Napoli, then Inter. They have something more than the others. Technique, endurance, physicality and style of play: Napoli have it all. I don’t like the three-man defence of Inter, but the duo of Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martínez is amazing. Juventus? Max Allegri is a leader, but the Bianconeri play mostly as a throw-in. I don’t think they can fight for the Scudetto.”
Milan were a part of the Super League which was heavily criticised by the fans as soon as it was announced. And due to the loaded response, several clubs dropped out straight away but the Rossoneri weren’t one of them. They did, however, eventually withdraw their participation.
On the project, Boban added: “A shameful attempt, stopped by the people even before the institutions. These billionaires have hurt their club’s accounts. Irresponsible. They wanted everything to themselves, erase values and Americanise this sport.”
There was a simply historic moment in the recent win over Spezia as Milan took the lead through Daniel Maldini in his first ever start for the club. A ball from the right side by Kalulu perfectly met the head of the Primavera product, who headed past Zoet, and Boban is pleased for the youngster.
“I was very excited too: we would all have exulted like Paolo. No one like the Maldini family represents the history of Milan.”
