Bocchetti was appointed as the new Verona boss earlier this week as they made the decision to change coaches after a run of four defeats in a row had seen them land in the relegation places. Although they did not get anything on the night against the Serie A champions, the performance was a big improvement.

It seemed for a long time in the second half as though the Rossoneri would be held to a draw by their hosts, but Sandro Tonali came up with the goods again just as he did in the same fixture last season.

Bocchetti spoke to the reporters who gathered in the press conference room to reflect on the defeat and his side’s performance, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

What does this match leave you?

“It gives me a lot of confidence. The guys gave everything, I think this is the right way.”

We saw Verona again…

“There is a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth. Sorry for the boys, they gave heart and soul and people applauded. These boys deserved a little more.”

Do you think the fear of saving yourselves from relegation could take over?

“We have to think game after game, with this attitude we will lose a few games.”

Was it exciting to make your managerial debut against Milan?

“More excited to be at Bentegodi than to play against Milan. It was a difficult match and we knew it. Milan have very strong players. Who impressed me the most? One is as good as another. They will fight for the Scudetto.”
