Graham Potter’s side have been linked with a move for Leao since the summer window when they are widely reported to have had a big late bid rejected, but the 23-year-old has still not penned an extension on his deal at Milan – currently expiring in June 2024 – leaving all possibilities open.
Leao was the Serie A MVP last season and he has continued his excellent form in the current campaign with seven goals and nine assists in 20 appearances across all competitions, also scoring twice for Portugal at the World Cup before they were knocked out by Morocco in the quarter-finals.
Journalist Dean Jones believes that Chelsea are currently the side best places to land Leao amid links with other clubs such as PSG, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “Chelsea have great interest in Leao and there is some hope over landing him, especially after he briefly followed them on social media the other day!
“But Milan are so desperate not to lose him right now because replacing him will be hard. Chelsea are the frontrunners, though, if this opens up. We will have to see how this goes over the next couple of weeks.”
