In a bizarre paradox, AC Milan could name Mattia Caldara in their Champions League squad list despite the fact they were actively trying to offload him all summer.

Calciomercato.com recall that the defensive department did not undergo much change for Milan in the summer with Matteo Gabbia and Fode Ballo-Touré leaving and only Marco Pellegrino arriving.
One player who the club were attempting to sell but instead remained with the Rossoneri is Caldara who, however, unlike the other players outside the plans could actually serve an important purpose.
Milan have decided to reinstate him in the squad by inserting him in the list of 25 players available in Serie A. Caldara is in fact one of the four ‘homegrown’ players, i.e. he came through an Italian academy.
Caldara, Marco Sportiello, Alessandro Florenzi and Antonio Mirante make up the four players required, while in addition to Davide Calabria and Tommaso Pobega, Lapo Nava, Davide Bartesaghi and Kevin Zeroli have been added to the Milan-trained list.
By today the sqyad list for the Champions League group stages will need to be named and, just like for Serie A, Caldara could be named. Unlike Serie A, however, his selection could mean someone like Marco Pellegrino misses out.
