Rade Krunic remained on the bench in AC Milan’s 3-1 win against Frosinone, despite not playing from start against Dortmund mid-week. A clear signal from the club and above all Stefano Pioli, with a January exit looking increasingly likely.
Krunic was a key player in the No.6 role at the start of this season but since Pioli reverted to a two-man midfield, he has been getting less and less space. Now, a January exit appears likely and yesterday was another testament to that.
According to Calciomercato.com, the chances of a January exit for the Bosnian are ‘constantly rising’ as Fenerbahce remain interested in the midfielder. Between the renewal stalemate – asking for €3m per year – and Pioli’s recent choices, a sale is looking increasingly likely.
Ismael Bennacer made his return yesterday and this means that Krunic will get even less space. Given that his contract will expire in 2025, a January sale would be a good way for Milan to monetise his departure. It’s clear that the price tag no longer is €12m, though, but rather in the single digits.
It remains to be seen what will happen in January, but a departure would be the best solution for all the parties involved.
