There is a lot of talk about AC Milan’s youth sector at the moment after Francesco Camarda’s record-breaking Serie A debut, and now his Primavera team-mate might be set for his first senior start.
Calciomercato.com recall that Camarda had a night that he will never forget last Saturday against Fiorentina at San Siro, making his debut in the first team and in Serie A. Though he got a few minutes to enjoy the chants and applause from fans of his boyhood club, it made headlines around the world.
It is a similar sense of joy that could soon also come for his team-mate in the Primavera, Jan-Carlo Simic. The Serbian defender, born in Germany, has already turned 18 and is one of the strong points of Ignazio Abate’s side in their UEFA Youth League success last season and this season.
For this reason, Stefano Pioli has often had him the first team in recent months, even for the summer tour of the United States in which Simic made his debut in the friendly against Real Madrid. In recent weeks, also ‘thanks’ to the injuries of Simon Kjaer, Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrino, he has constantly been training with the senior side.
He even sat on the bench on two occasions, against Udinese and Fiorentina, and his debut in Serie A is approaching given that he joins Fikayo Tomori as the only fit centre-back for the game against Frosinone on Saturday night.
The club are already thinking about his future. Simic has a contract until 30 June 2025, the directors are happy with his growth and in the coming months they will evaluate whether to offer a renewal to the centre-back.
Then, he could go out on loan next season to gain experience and play with more continuity at the senior level, perhaps in Serie B.
