CM: Empoli star shines at the U20 World Cup – asking price rises amid Milan interest

Tommaso Baldanzi has had quite the year so far, starring with Empoli in Serie A and now with the Italian national team at the U20 World Cup.

Calciomercato.com recall how Baldanzi has racked up 4 goals in 26 games for Empoli and he has translated his form from blue shirt to blue shirt, having scored the opening goal of Italy U20’s 2-1 win over England in the last 16 of the World Cup in Argentina.

Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi is watching on with a smile and is not currently thinking of a sale. He knows that sooner or later he will have to leave for a big club, but he hopes that Baldanzi will stay for another season, especially with Vicario and Parisi on the way out.

However, it is not a guarantee that Corsi can keep hold of the 20-year-old, despite the fact he has a contract expiring in 2027. Much will depend on the offers that arrive, with four big Serie A clubs lurking.

Inter are keen but it is tough to see where he fits in a 3-5-2, Milan are interested but currently have a full compliment of attacking midfielders, while Lazio and above all Napoli are also interested.

The asking price for the trequartista is around €20m, which could rise if Baldanzi continues to show his qualities and his potential in Argentina. Italy will face Colombia in the quarter-finals on Saturday, with Baldanzi having the No.10 on his back.
