CM: Fofana, Asensio, Loftus-Cheek, Kamada – Milan want to get stronger up the middle

AC Milan will first look to invest in a new centre-forward and then they will turn to reinforcing the midfield department, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com talk about Milan’s strategy in view of the summer window, stating that the priority will be to sign a young striker to give Olivier Giroud some help, then to reinforce the positions up the middle.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are in ongoing negotiations to sign Daichi Kamada on a free transfer, with the Japan international set to leave Eintracht Frankfurt when his contract expires.

Milan remain admirers of Marco Asensio whose deal is expiring with Real Madrid, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek – under contract with Chelsea until 2024 – is also a target that is on their wish list.

In the background there is also a track that leads to Seko Fofana. The former Udinese man is a key player at RC Lens who have just secured Champions League qualification, but he has a €25m release clause.

The manoeuvres have begun and it is clear there is a desire to get stronger up the middle, even if Stefano Pioli downplayed the idea of big changes in his press conference yesterday.

“The midfield is not a department that decides on numbers and decides on a final result. If we all work as a team together in a certain way everyone benefits. It is played in 11 because a collective game is not a question of individuals or departments,” he said.
