CM: Furlani schedules Villarreal talks as Gabbia says ‘yes’ to early return

Matteo Gabbia was sent to Villarreal on a season-long loan in the summer but could return to AC Milan in January. Due to the injury crisis, the Rossoneri are now working on the matter, a report claims.

The centre-back has made 13 appearances for the Spanish side this season and while some of them have been good, he hasn’t been convincing overall. Therefore, Milan are hopeful that an agreement can be reached to cut the loan short.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Milan have already been in talks with Gabbia’s entourage, getting the ‘yes’ of the player for the return. Now, CEO Giorgio Furlani must convince Villarreal to cut the loan short and optimism is filtering regarding the matter.

Given that the likes of Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori currently are on the sidelines, Gabbia’s return will not be enough for the Rossoneri. At least one more centre-back will arrive and there are many names on the wish list, such as Clement Lenglet (Aston Villa) and Thilo Kehrer (West Ham).

It also remains to be seen what will happen to Pioli, whose position is in real danger following the 2-2 draw against Salernitana. Milan are evaluating the situation and the Primavera manager Ignazio Abate is one of the options for the rest of the season.
