The Milan management’s decision not to go out and get a striker who offers guarantees could hurt them, a report has claimed.
Alberto Cerruti’s latest editorial for Calciomercato.com writes how Zlatan Ibrahimovic has turned 40 years old earlier this month but he wants to prove that he can still be decisive and above all that he can help the Rossoneri win the Scudetto. Despite having been out for some time now with an Achilles problem, his probable return date keeps getting pushed back.
Ibrahimovic was on the field only 19 times last season – exactly half of the league games – and this season he has not started any of the seven league matches and two Champions League matches but did score off the bench against Lazio before injuring himself again.
He could be available for the next Champions League match next Tuesday against Porto but it is not known, and Cerruti questions why the management decided to gamble by signing a 35-year-old Giroud to be his back-up when he spent more time on the bench than playing last season at Chelsea.
Pietro Pellegri signed from Monaco to be the third choice but he too arrived after a season full of physical problems, so much so that he was not even included in the squad list for the Champions League.
The journalist adds that Milan can’t think of winning the Scudetto without two real strikers who can guarantee goals but above all to be fit, and that could be the gamble that backfired for Maldini and Massara.
