CM: ‘An important sign of confidence’ – Milan and Gabbia in advanced renewal talks

The AC Milan directors are in ongoing discussions with the entourage of Matteo Gabbia to extend his contract, according to a report.

One year ago, Gabbia left for the preseason tour of the United States with the Milan squad but he was not out there very long before returning to Italy and then heading to Spain, as a season-long loan spell with Villarreal was agreed.

Fast forward a few months and he was recalled early from the Valencia-based club due to a defensive crisis in the Rossoneri ranks, with Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu all having gone down with serious injuries.

This summer things are different as Gabbia’s performances have earned him a solid spot in the squad and there seems to be no talk of a possible exit. Now, it seems that the Milan management want to reward his development and secure his long-term future.

In what Calciomercato.com describe as ‘an important sign of confidence, Milan are in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Gabbia’s agents to renew his contract until 2028.

A pay rise is also expected to reward the ‘work, discipline and growth’ shown by the youth sector graduate last season and in the years prior, though his new salary is not mentioned.
