CM: Milan’s summer mercato is already taking shape – from Botman to Sanches

AC Milan only brought in one player last month, with the signing of Marko Lazetic, and thus failed to reinforce the defence. However, it was an active choice by the Rossoneri, who are now planning for the summer.

With the injuries of Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori (the latter has since returned), a defensive signing felt almost certain. In the end, though, Milan opted to wait until the summer instead and that can indeed be described as a risky move.

According to Calciomercato.com, the absence of a proper budget resulted in the decision to wait until the summer. Lille duo Sven Botman and Renato Sanches could have arrived in January but talks are now ongoing for the summer.

The total cost of the duo could be around €50-60m, per the report, and that means there wouldn’t be much left for more signings. For example, they could need another centre-back if Alessio Romagnoli leaves, while the attack remains a question mark.

With those two signings, therefore, Milan could opt for low-cost solutions for the rest. Andrea Belotti could be a target for the attack, as he will be available on a free transfer, but the right-wing role is yet to be figured out.
