AC Milan’s last game of 2022 did not go according to plan as they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion tonight.
After the losses against Liverpool and Arsenal in Dubai the hope was that a better performance and result would occur in the Netherlands, the Rossoneri also lost against PSV. It was a worrying night ahead of the season resuming on January 4, and Calciomercato.com picked out the tops and flops from the game.
Starting with the positives, Davide Calabria put in a good performance with the captain’s armband, returning after a long injury and looking not out of place. It will take a few more games to hit 100%, but he was probably the best of the back four.
Rafael Leao came off the bench and looked very bright with his usual darting runs. Perhaps some end product was lacking, though there is no doubting he did more in his cameo than anyone else in the forward group offered.
Antonio Mirante was a disappointment. He seemed unsure, he could have done something more on each of the Eredivisie side’s goals, and at the end of the first half he nearly flapped a corner into his own net.
Pierre Kalulu was also lacking concentration and made an early error that could and should have led to a goal, while Sandro Tonali looked sluggish at times and was covered for by Ismael Bennacer.
