CorSera: Milan have offered €7m per year to Leao – what will happen next

Rafael Leao’s contract will expire in 2024 and AC Milan have made a significant effort to keep him at the club. The Portuguese winger now must decide his fate as the Rossoneri cannot go any higher, a journalist claims.

Leao was named the best player in Serie A last season and he has continued to do well this term. Milan, therefore, are eager to renew his contract and eventually monetise his incredible growth since arriving from Lille in 2019.

According to Corriere Della Sera journalist Carlo Passerini, interviewed by MilanNews, Milan have out €7m per year on the table for Leao. Furthermore, their selling point is being able to give him a place to grow even further and secured playing time.

Milan are aware that they cannot compete with the financial muscles of Premier League teams, but they also know that Leao will have the best chance to grow with them. Moving to a bigger club could be a risk, as he would have to fight more for playing time.

The biggest obstacle is the fine that must be paid to Sporting. It stands at €20m (even though perhaps Lille will pay half) and it’s natural that Leao is worried in that sense, but soon he must decide his future with Milan. €7m is a good offer and would deservedly make him the highest-paid Milan player.
