CorSera: Milan set to compete with European giants for Thiago Motta

With Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan future under speculation, it is expected that names will be linked to the post, should the club decide to move forward without Pioli.

Ahead of this season, many expected Milan to be in the race for the Scudetto. Alongside this, a journey in the Champions League similar to the 2022-23 season, would have been appreciated. However, with a nine-point lead required to catch Inter and a miracle needed to progress in the Champions League, it is understandable why Pioli is facing questions.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes that Milan – alongside Barcelona, PSG, and some unnamed Premier League clubs – will try to tempt the former Inter and PSG midfielder to spearhead their club.

Motta’s Bologna has been one of the standout clubs in Serie A this season, and after their 2-0 victory against Torino this weekend, they currently sit fifth in the league. They are only four points behind the Rossoneri.

Their brand of football is attractive and has only been on the rise in recent months. Hence, the interest from big clubs to attempt to land the 41-year-old.

The Diavolo’s links to Motta are only strengthened by Zlatan Ibrahimovic rejoining the club. Reports have already suggested that Ibra may have a say in Milan’s next coach, given his advisor role, and given the pair played together at PSG for four years, there is a relationship there and admiration for each other.

Furthermore, the report states that the manager has not made any movement to sign a new contract with the Rossoblu. Given his contract expires in June 2024, this only adds fuel to the rumours and makes a potential move away from his current club more feasible.
