CorSport: €40m Bundesliga man re-emerges as Milan target after previous links

A new but also familiar name emerged in the past couple of days in AC Milan’s striker search: Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen. Now, another source has backed up these rumours.

Two days ago, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Milan have Boniface on their list of targets for the centre-forward role, adding that an investment of €45-50m is budgeted for that particular reinforcement.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) reports that Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna seems to be the number one target for Milan in view of the summer, but there are obstacles to overcome.

The price (high) and the competition (Juventus, but also Premier League teams) for the Dutchman could force them to assess other options, and Boniface’s name could be back in fashion again.

The Nigeria international is currently a star of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen who are one step away from winning the Bundesliga. So far this season, Boniface has scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in 25 matches across all competitions.

Milan have been following him since the days when he played in Belgium for Union Saint-Gilloise. There were talks between the Rossoneri and his entourage, but no agreement was reached and he want to Germany for €20m.

After a season like this, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada have to put at least double that amount on the table, i.e. €40m. That is a figure, however, that is in line with the budget that they have set aside to purchase a new No.9.
