CorSport: Why the first task Fonseca faces at Milan concerns the fans

It is looking more and more like Paulo Fonseca will be the next head coach of AC Milan, and he faces a challenge right from day one according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) confirms that Fonseca should soon sign a two-year contract with Milan – expiring on 30 June 2026 – plus the option for a third season. He will earn a salary of €2.5m net per season, plus bonus taking it up to €3m.

The club chose him for his attacking style of play, for his tactical system, for his ability to enhance young players and because he is a coach who loves to work in harmony with the directors, while Fonseca wanted the move because of the size and history of Milan and the chance to return to Italy.

However, the Roman newspaper also pointed out that the protest of Milan fans – who hoped to see a coach with a superior CV on the bench for the post-Stefano Pioli era – has not subsided. This is why one of Fonseca’s first tasks will be to convince the Rossoneri fans with results.

He will have to be supported by the club and by a good summer transfer window. The strategy is to robustly strengthen the team in the mercato through three-four starting XI additions, making the pool squad more competitive with targeted operations.
