CorSport: Why the first task Fonseca faces at Milan concerns the fans

By Oliver Fisher -

It is looking more and more like Paulo Fonseca will be the next head coach of AC Milan, and he faces a challenge right from day one according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) confirms that Fonseca should soon sign a two-year contract with Milan – expiring on 30 June 2026 – plus the option for a third season. He will earn a salary of €2.5m net per season, plus bonus taking it up to €3m.

The club chose him for his attacking style of play, for his tactical system, for his ability to enhance young players and because he is a coach who loves to work in harmony with the directors, while Fonseca wanted the move because of the size and history of Milan and the chance to return to Italy.

However, the Roman newspaper also pointed out that the protest of Milan fans – who hoped to see a coach with a superior CV on the bench for the post-Stefano Pioli era – has not subsided. This is why one of Fonseca’s first tasks will be to convince the Rossoneri fans with results.

He will have to be supported by the club and by a good summer transfer window. The strategy is to robustly strengthen the team in the mercato through three-four starting XI additions, making the pool squad more competitive with targeted operations.

  1. Man if I was paid 3M€ a year to move from Lille, which is a horrible place to live in, I wouldn’t care about what people say. I wish we could watch his job interview, it was probably hilarious.

      1. I know you’re from northern Europe Martin but I said that because of the weather mostly 🙂 It’s always very cold, rainy and not a very exciting city also but just my opinion. Most people get there because it’s on the way to Amsterdam haha

        1. 😀 Thats ok and I probably would enjoy the weather down there more, pretty sure i would enjoy Amsterdam more though 😛

  2. Was so happy when we scored early and during most of the goodbye celebrations with Pioli and the players they had to watch in silence hahaha. They’re so classy during sendoffs aren’t they ? /S

  3. Fonseca is just the next giampaolo (if it bad) or the next pioli (if it’s good). This milan not upgrade anything with fonseca. This redbird and management is ridiculous
